SPRING FLAG FOOTBALL UPDATE:
We, like every other program, are in a holding pattern with everything that is going on. We are hopeful that things get back on track in April with the Governor closing schools until April 20th. We certainly hope you and your family are healthy, coping well with home schooling and continue to throw the football and work on your cheer routine.
SPRING FLAG FOOTBALL SCHEDULE:
Grades K-2 will play on Sunday mornings at Old Field/Senior Center @ 100 Mona Terrace.
Tentative times are:
Grades 1-2 will be 9-10:30 am
K will be 10:30 to noon
Grades 3-6 will play on Monday afternoons starting at 5:30pm at Sullivan Field @ Old Dam Rd.
2020 Spring Flag Football Registration is closed!
Spring Flag football is a 1 day a week program focused on developing skills and teamwork for children with all skill sets, that can carry over into the fall football season. We've designed this program to keep kids running around as part of FYF while making the time commitment and price point minimal to make sure that kids can still play the more traditional spring sports!
We are working on finalizing the details of the schedule with Fairfield Parks & Rec Department, but we are looking to start the season the last week of March and end the second weekend of June.
Both weekends and week of April break will be off, so we are focusing on 9 weeks. We are targeting similiar days of week as last season - where grades K-2 will play on Sunday Morning, and grades 3-6 will play on Monday afternoons.
We have done our best to work with Lax and both baseball leagues to avoid overlap but we understand there could be weeks that not everyone will be able to attend. We want to give kids an outlet to continue to play when it works while being respectful to the traditional spring sports!
The 90-minute format will be 30-45 minutes each week of drills and development followed by 45-60 minutes of a game/scrimmage.
Our goal is to let kids have fun and develop them to be ready for the upcoming fall season as well as introduce kids who have not played yet to our league and how much fun it can be.
Team Make-Up - PARENTS PLEASE READ:
Because most levels, except Kindergarten, are composed of a combination of grades (1-2, 3-4, 5-6) each team is made to ensure that there is a balance of both grade levels. Teams are not made up based on school as the league believes that playing sports with other kids outside of their social circle benefits them in making new friends, and further develop many of the social skills that they will need for life. If parents wish to have their friends play together, the best way to ensure that this happens is for their parents to volunteer to coach.
The cost will be $150 to FYF (the town adds on a $25 field use fee). A $25 discount will be given to siblings in program.
Players will get uniform, flag belt and some FYF swag.
Registration will close Wednesday, March 15th.
For those who played in our Kindergarten league this past fall, the spring league is a bit different - as we play outside for entire spring season. Each session is still based on learning the basic fundamentals of teamwork, the great game of football, and of course, having FUN!
As always, we would love to have any volunteer coaching support. Please feel free to email Brendan Sullivan @ firstname.lastname@example.org or Matt Wilcox @ email@example.com
Thank you for considering FYF and for playing football!
